The Italian star posted a team picture from the Magpies locker room, receiving thousands of likes and comments.

Many came from Milan fans who apparently still miss the 24-year-old from Lodi.

Several of them wrote the same thing in Italian: ‘Torna a casa’, which means ‘Come back home.’

There were so many comments from Milan fans that Geordie Josh, a Newcastle supporter and video creator, sarcastically asked: “Will these AC Milan fans just leave you alone?”

Tonali returned to action for the Newcastle and Italy national teams in August after a 10-month ban for illegal betting ended.

The former Milan midfielder has one assist in 10 appearances at a club level this season.

Another Italy international, Riccardo Calafiori, followed Newcastle-Arsenal from home on Saturday while recovering from a knee injury.
