The news that Mike Maignan will miss Milan’s first Champions League Round of 16 clash has left fans distraught but Tottenham supporters are more divided over Hugo Lloris’ absence.

The Rossoneri shot stopper has been sidelined for the last five months with a calf injury, suffered whilst on international duty back in September. The issue did not initially appear to be as serious as it’s now become and fans are growing increasingly concerned about the 27-year-old, who had hoped to be fit to face Spurs.

It’s a different story for Lloris, who will now be sidelined for the next six weeks with a knee ligament injury. The French veteran has been in a run of poor form recently and his absence has divided Tottenham fans, with some feeling that it’s time for a new number one to be brought in.

The reactions from both fan bases summarise this difference in emotions; stemming from the Milan corner is concern about Maignan’s health, worries about the capabilities of backup Ciprian Tatarusanu and frustration over his slow recovery.

In contrast, Spurs fans are split regarding Llloris’ absence, with many calling it a blessing in disguise and others worried about their depth at the back and if Fraser Forster will be able to rise to the occasion.
