Milan are keen to lock down Mike Maignan to a new long-term contract but negotiations are not progressing quickly as Bayern Munich circle overhead.

The Rossoneri opened talks with the French goalkeeper’s entourage last summer, the day after Paolo Maldini’s sacking, keen to understand the parameters of an agreement. The club’s management consider him a key figure in Stefano Pioli’s squad.

Milan want to ensure Maignan has a new contract in place ahead of the summer of 2025, aware that Bayern Munich and other top clubs around Europe are keen to snap up the star goalkeeper, who has now taken on Hugo Lloris’ starting spot in the France national team.

Page 17 of today’s Tuttosport details how Maignan’s entourage believe he deserves a salary of around €8m net per season, far higher than the Milan management’s initial estimations of less than the €7m net wages given to Rafael Leao.

Whilst the Rossoneri aren’t in panic mode yet, it’s clear that there is still a long way to go in negotiations before any possible agreement.

Bayern are searching for a new long-term replacement for Manuel Neuer and an offer of circa €80m for Maignan in the summer may be enough to force Milan’s hand. The Bavarian giants can also afford to offer a contract worth upwards of €10m net per season.
