Milan are continuing to work on their project to build a new stadium in the La Maura area of the city but now face a possible roadblock from the European Union.

Corriere della Sera details how the Rossoneri have faced numerous complaints from local residents and politicians in their quest to construct a new home in the La Maura area of Milan, where a racecourse is situation in a large green space.

City councillor Enrico Fedrighini is one of many against Milan’s project and he’s filed a complaint for the violation of the ‘EU Soil Strategy 2030’ directive, noting how the plans risk irreversibly transforming a protected space of nature in the city.

The European Commissioner’s response is expected within 90 days and could create a serious roadblock for Milan should they agree with Fedrighini.

In the meantime, councillor Alessandro De Chirico has filed a motion to convene an emergency session of the city council within the next 20 days to discuss Milan’s new stadium plans.
