Having struggled for regular playing time since his summer move out to the Spanish capital, Cerci has been attracting increasing speculation over a return to Italy this January.

On from Inter reportedly prioritising him in a recent transfer summit, Tuttosport have again linked city neighbours Milan with interest.

The Rossoneri appear to be back in the fray as they are looking for a replacement for winger Keisuke Honda, who will be leaving the club for up to a month to play in the Asian Cup with Japan.

Tuttosport report that Inter’s initial approach of a loan with purchase option has been turned down, out of Los Colchoneros’ reluctance to ‘give away’ the player so soon after investing in him.

However, the Turin-based paper suggests that Milan are working on a different, low-cost approach to try to tempt Atleti with.

It is understood that, with Chelsea’s blessing, the Diavolo are willing to offer that Atletico take up Fernando Torres’ loan, in exchange for the San Siro side taking Cerci on a temporary basis.

Should the proposition fall through, the alternative, reiterate Tuttosport, would be Alessandro Diamanti, currently under contract with Guangzhou Evergrande.
