The forward has long been Vincenzo Montella’s first choice, although club directors seem to be leaning more towards Andrea Belotti of Torino or Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

With Giovanni Simeone on the verge of completing a €17m transfer from Genoa to Fiorentina, the Tuscans are more likely to let their Croatia international leave.

Sky Sport Italia claim Milan could reach an agreement for €20m plus at least €5m in performance-related bonuses.

The Fiorentina asking price has always been €30m, though Sportitalia suggest they still want to hold out for €25m plus another €5m in bonuses.

Another option would be to include left-back Luca Antonelli as part of the deal.

Everton are also chasing Kalinic, but it’s widely reported he only wants Milan and will resist efforts to push him towards the Premier League.
