Rafael Leao has attracted interest from Chelsea, but Milan seem determined to break the bank to give him a huge pay increase and new contract.

The Portugal international winger was one of the key figures in their Scudetto-winning campaign, providing 11 goals and 10 assists in 34 Serie A appearances last season.

He just turned 23 and there is a release clause in his contract worth €150m, but that deal only runs to June 2024.

Negotiations on an extension had started some time ago and an agreement was close for €4.5m per season to 2026.

However, his extraordinary performances attracted attention from abroad and inevitably his agent increased the demand.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the asking price is now €6m per season in a new five-year contract, and the Rossoneri directors are prepared to break the bank to give him that salary.

Leao also seems happy to commit his future to the San Siro giants, who had kept faith with him even when he struggled to find form and consistency.

  1. Just give him the 6m..I can’t understand why milan keeps playing difficult in increasing too performing players contract. For Godsake Ibra isn’t earning 7m anymore why wasting time to channel that pay to Leao?.we ought to do better .

  2. 1 good season, 2 years left on his contract and still, 6m a year is needed to keep him. Mind boggling.
