Milan have struggled to reach an agreement to sign Emerson Royal from Tottenham, so they may drop the Brazilian right-back to sign Strahinja Pavlovic.

More and more sources in Italy claim Milan are in talks with RB Salzburg defender Pavlovic, who is reportedly open to signing a €1.5m-a-year contract with the Rossoneri.

Milan had planned to sign Pavlovic only after the sale of another central defender, ideally Malick Thiaw to Newcastle.

However, their struggles to reach an agreement for Emerson Royal and Paulo Fonseca’s early tests at Milanello may persuade the Rossoneri to drop the Brazilian defender to sign Pavlovic.

Fonseca has been using Pierre Kalulu as a right-back during his first training sessions as Milan coach, which means that the Frenchman would fight with Davide Calabria for a starting spot on the right flank next season.

Fonseca spoke about his ideas for Milan’s defence during a press conference on Monday, insisting that Kalulu could play two different roles. He also added that “Theo is an attacking full-back so sometimes we can play with a defensive right-back” to be more balanced.

Both Gazzetta and Sky Sport Italia insist that Pavlovic is becoming a higher priority for Milan than Emerson Royal.

  1. Kalulu is not a right back! He doesn’t have the guile and creativity in the opposition’s half! Not that Emerson royal with cheese would’ve been an upgrade on Calabria!
