Exams undergone by Milan defender Pierre Kalulu this morning highlighted a calf injury which could force him out of action in both Champions League games against Napoli in April, reports in Italy claim.

The French defender sustained an injury while on international duty with Les Blues U21 squad and returned to Milan to undergo medical examinations.

Sky Sport Italia and Milannews claim exams highlighted a lesion to the soleus muscle which will force Kalulu out of action in the first match after the international break against Napoli on Sunday.

The 22-year-old will undergo a new medical check in ten days, but Milan fear he won’t recover in time for the other two games against the Partenopei in the Champions League quarter-finals.

The first leg is at San Siro on April 12, while the return fixture will be played the following week, on April 18, at the Stadio Maradona in Naples.

Kalulu has played 37 games across all competitions with Milan this term, scoring one goal.

His injury may allow Simon Kjaer to get more playing time at San Siro after the Dane complained about Stefano Pioli’s decisions last week.
