At a meeting this afternoon, the council of Milan decided that the current Stadio Meazza would be kept intact.
However, it's not yet clear what the stadium in its present form will be used for following the conclusion of the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Meanwhile, the proposed new arena was voted in favour of 27 votes to 11, with seven people abstaining.
However it is only a conditional 'yes' as Milan mayor Beppe Sala wants the project to be reviewed, arguing it favours the clubs too much and the council too little.
The new stadium will hold a capacity of 60,000 and consist of surrounding hotels, entertainment complexes and a green park. The total cost of the venture is estimated to be around €1.2bn.
