Milan directors Frederic Massara and Paolo Maldini are in continued discussions with Real Madrid over a cut-price deal for Brahim Diaz, whose two-year loan deal from Los Blancos is set to expire at the end of the season.

Diaz put in an exemplary shift during Sunday’s 4-0 win over champions-in-waiting Napoli, returning a goal and an assist in a near-perfect display from the Rossoneri.

And it has not been the first time the 23-year-old has come up with the good when it matters this season; he provided the only goal of either leg in the Champions League tie with Tottenham and also scored the crucial goal against Juventus in Serie A in October.

Aside from the ongoing saga over Rafal Leao’s contract extension, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Diaz’s situation is one of the biggest priorities for the club heading into the off-season.

There is still a lot of football to be played before then though, and the Italian outlet states that Milan will have a better understanding of their spending abilities in the summer after the conclusion of the remaining league and Champions League fixtures.

Either way, Massara and Maldini will continue to negotiate with Real Madrid over a discount for Diaz, who will currently cost them €22m in line with a clause in the Spaniard’s contract.

The risk, however, is that Real Madrid retain the right to buy their player back for €26-27m, and reports claim that the Spanish giants could bring Diaz back to Madrid just to sell him on for a higher fee.
