Milan fans are calling for Simon Kjaer to become the new Rossoneri captain and La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the Rossoneri might give him the armband.

The hashtag #KjaerCapitano has gone viral on Twitter, as fans want to award the Denmark captain for his decisive actions to help save Inter midfielder Christian Eriksen on Saturday.

The centre-back intervened immediately to help Eriksen, who collapsed in the Euro 2020 opener against Finland.

Kjaer praised for his decisive actions that helped Eriksen

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the wave of fans requesting Kjaer is given the captaincy at San Siro has overwhelmed and Milan are joining the initiative.

Coach Stefano Pioli and the team will discuss the issue and it’s not excluded that the armband will actually go to the former Sevilla defender, who arrived at the Rossoneri in January 2020.

Alessio Romagnoli has been the captain at Milan since 2018 but is no longer considered a starter under Pioli.

Gigio Donnarumma moves this summer and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is a leader on and off the pitch, missed almost half the season through injuries in 2020-21.

Franck Kessie and Davide Calabria are also considered for the captaincy, but Milan might have been convinced to give the armband to Kjaer after his heroic actions.

“Captain Kjaer,” the headline in La Gazzetta dello Sport says. “The armband also with Milan: the yes from the club and the fans.

“The social movement to make him the leader. For the club and Pioli, it’s a possibility.”
