While Milan insist Gennaro Gattuso isn’t a caretaker, it’s reported they’re considering Antonio Conte or Carlo Ancelotti as Coach for next season.

Vincenzo Montella was sacked yesterday, with the former midfielder promoted from the Primavera team to replace him.

Both CEO Marco Fassone and sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli were at pains to stress that Gattuso isn’t a caretaker, but Gazzetta dello Sport believes both Chelsea boss Conte and Rossoneri legend Ancelotti are in the frame.

Conte has repeatedly hinted that he’d like to move to back to Italy, and it’s thought he’s impressed by Milan’s youngsters.

However, the financial situation at the club will have a huge bearing on who they can attract as their next Coach.

UEFA is currently considering a proposal for a voluntary agreement, while the Chinese owners are trying to refinance a loan from US hedge fund Elliott Management.

While Conte could accept being out of European competition, he’s concerned about the Diavolo’s long-term ability to invest in the squad.

The same holds true for Ancelotti, so it makes sense for Gattuso to take charge at least until the end of the season, when the financial situation will be clearer.
