Milan have formally announced that talks are “advanced” to exchange Alessio Cerci with Fernando Torres at Atletico Madrid.

The rumours had been circulating for some time that Torres would return to his first club and that Cerci would be loaned back to a Serie A side.

Milan Channel – the official television station of the club – announced on Christmas Eve that negotiations with Atletico for the deal are “at an advanced stage.”

Torres – who is on a two-year loan from Chelsea – would be loaned out to Atleti for the remaining 18 months of that deal.

At the same time, ex-Torino winger Cerci would come to Milan for six months.

Torres scored only one Serie A goal in 10 appearances and was repeatedly dropped, while Cerci struggled to get playing time in Madrid.

It’s a heavy blow for Inter, who had confirmed their interest in Cerci.
