Milan confirm Alessandro Florenzi ‘will begin his rehabilitation process right away’ following a successful arthroscopic operation on his left knee.

The Italy international sustained a meniscus injury during Monday’s Serie A clash with Bologna, requiring surgery. He has now undergone the operation and will start his rehabilitation process as soon as possible.

“AC Milan can confirm that Alessandro Florenzi today underwent an arthroscopic operation on his left knee, conducted by Dr Piero Paolo Mariani,” a club statement read.

“The meniscectomy, undertaken with AC Milan club doctor Lucio Genesio in attendance, was successful. Alessandro will commence the rehabilitation process right away.”

There are fears Florenzi’s season could be over already, leaving Stefano Pioli short of options in the right-back position. Florenzi joined Milan on loan from Roma in the summer and it remains to be seen if the Rossoneri will make his move permanent at the end of the season.

The 31-year-old has scored one goal in 27 appearances across all competitions this season. He was part of the Azzurri squad that won the Euros in the summer and failed to qualify for Qatar 2022 last month.

His contract with Roma expires in June 2023 and he is unlikely to remain at the Stadio Olimpico if he returns to his former club in the summer.
