A statement from Milan confirms that midfielder Ismael Bennacer has been diagnosed with a thigh injury and will miss the derby against Inter.
The Algeria international sustained the muscular problem during the 4-0 defeat to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico.
There were fears that he would be out of action for several months, but the tests have shown only a minor lesion to the femoral bicep in his left leg.
Bennacer will undergo further evaluation next week, but the news is largely positive and he is hoping to return for the Champions League Round of 16 tie against Tottenham Hotspur on February 14.
It is still enough to rule him out of this Sunday’s Derby della Madonnina against Inter.
The Rossoneri are already missing Fikayo Tomori, Mike Maignan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alessandro Florenzi.
