Milan are reportedly closing in on a deal for highly-rated teenage talent Matija Popovic on a free transfer from Partizan Belgrade according to Sunday’s updates.

The 17-year-old, who will turn 18 on January 8, is now into the final week of his contract in the Serbian capital and will officially become a free agent on January 1.

Calciomercato.com reports that Milan have reached an agreement with Popvic and his entourage over a five-year deal, which will run until the summer of 2029.

Sunday’s report also details that Popvic will travel to Milan within the first two weeks of the new year and will officially put pen to paper on his Milan contract shortly afterwards.

There had been some last minute reservations over Popovic’s signing from Milan’s side, as management had reportedly been concerned about filling up a valuable non-EU slot in the squad.

There had also been an attempted intervention from recent Club World Cup champions Manchester City, however their interest only intensified Milan’s desire to secure a deal for Popovic.

Now both of those issues have been put to bed, Popovic is expected to become a Milan player in the coming weeks.
