Milan chairman Paolo Scaroni has reassured fans who are panicking over the failure of directors Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara to sign contract extensions.

The duo are seen as key players in the club’s turnaround from European qualification hopefuls to Scudetto winners in just under four years.

Both Maldini and Massara will be out of contract at the end of the month which has led to panic among some Rossoneri supporters but Scaroni said this is normal when an organisation changes ownership as Milan did earlier this month.

Speaking on the Gr Parliament podcast La Politica nel Pallone, he said: “The change of ownership in this somewhat crucial moment has delayed many things, but everything is an idyllic atmosphere of relationships.

“I don’t worry much about the Maldini-Massara issue, I have no doubt that an agreement will be reached whereby this duo, which was so important, will continue with us in the coming years.”

Reports in the Italian press had suggested a three-year extension for the pair would likely be signed in the coming days.

Maldini returned to the club in 2018 when the Elliott Management hedge fund took over the club and he became technical director 12 months later when Massaro was also hired to work alongside the former club captain.
