Milan President Paolo Scaroni confirmed the club’s willingness to move forward with their new stadium plans without Inter should it not be built in San Siro.

The Rossoneri and Nerazzurri are desperate to leave the existing Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, owned by the Municipality of Milan, and build their own stadium in the same area, demolishing parts of the current stadium in the process. The Populous ‘Cathedral’ design has been chosen and now the clubs are in constant contact with the city council.

Speaking at a book presentation in Milan, Scaroni confirmed the Rossoneri’s willingness to build the new stadium on their own should it not be approved in the San Siro area of the city.

“We are carrying out three projects in parallel. One is for Sesto San Giovanni and another one I won’t say, it’s under wraps still. If it’ll not be San Siro, Milan are willing to do it alone.

“Let’s not give up the fight, I assure you that Milan will have the new stadium. The first one that gets unblocked we will jump at it.

“Milan will collect €40m for the stadium. How do we compete internationally with such low revenues? That is why we absolutely want the new stadium.”

The Rossoneri President then touched on the club’s other sources of revenue.

“We generate €60 million in cash, we are in good shape. The brand continues to grow. We are the most famous Italian club in the world.

“We get paid very little for sponsorships because the league is considered second tier.”

He gave his thoughts on the club’s recent dip in form.

“Good not great. Remember that we are second. We are playing badly, but we are there in the right spots.

“I still remember Atalanta-Milan 5-0. Four is better than five. We like winning the Scudetto, but we want to advance in the Champions League.”

The Milan President provided a positive update about goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who has missed large parts of this season through injury.

“I have good news. Goalkeeper Maignan will be back for the Champions League.”

Finally, Scaroni made a brief comment about Roma forward Nicolo Zaniolo, who is reportedly one of the club’s top targets for this month’s transfer window.

“Zaniolo? He’s a good player.”
