Milan have not yet been able to secure a move away from the club for midfielder Ismael Bennacer, which complicates their pursuit of Adrien Rabiot, but both deals could still be resolved after the Serie A transfer deadline closes on Friday night.

Milan deals can continue into September

According to recent updates, Bennacer will not be joining either Olympique de Marseille or Atletico Madrid. Calciomercato.it suggest that he is unlikely to wrap up a move away from San Siro before the transfer deadline.

That does not, however, rule out a move to the Saudi Pro League, as the window for signing foreign players will remain open until September 2.

Milan’s pursuit of Rabiot is also not restricted by the transfer window deadline. He is a free agent after leaving Juventus earlier this summer, so can join any club at any time.

That takes a small amount of pressure off Milan, but there is still a looming deadline that is important for the Rossoneri staff.

Champions League squads must be submitted to UEFA by September 3, which means that if Milan are to sign Rabiot, they will need to do it before then in order for him to participate in Europe.

The Rossoneri will have to sell Bennacer before the Rabiot move becomes possible.
