Christian Pulisic scored on the rebound from his saved penalty and Milan beat Monza on a sudden death penalty shoot-out in the first edition of the Trofeo Silvio Berlusconi.

This was a very special event at the U-Power Stadium, as the two clubs owned by Berlusconi during his lifetime went head-to-head with special jerseys remembering the patron who died in June.

There were early saves to deny Rafael Leao and a double Mirko Maric and Matteo Pessina attempt, before Davide Bettella was carried off in tears with a badly sprained ankle.

He made way for Danilo D’Ambrosio, who brought down Pulisic for a penalty. The former Chelsea striker stepped up and had his spot-kick saved by Michele Di Gregorio, but fired in the rebound.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek had a couple of shots charged down before Monza equalised, Carlos Augusto surprising Fikayo Tomori to send Andrea Colpani clear on goal.

Loftus-Cheek and Gianluca Caprari were denied by saves, while late on Noah Okafor and Samuel Chukwueze made their Milan debuts.

It ended 1-1 and the trophy was decided on a penalty shoot-out that went to sudden death until Samuele Birindelli blasted his attempt against the crossbar.
