Milan opened the night against Spaniards Celta Vigo and wasted two golden early opportunities with Bacca, who was sent clear only to fire straight at the goalkeeper.
An Andrea Poli error in midfield sparked a counter, forcing Diego Lopez to deny Sisto, but teenager Davide Calabria skimmed the bar with a stunning half-volley.
Gabriel Paletta’s header clipped the top of the crossbar from Riccardo Montolivo’s assist. Celta Vigo thought they had scored, but Sisto was clearly offside.
Bacca was sent clear through the middle again by Keisuke Honda, but once more he aimed straight at the on-rushing goalkeeper with nobody else to beat.
With no goals after 45 minutes, the mini-match was decided on a penalty shoot-out. Diego Lopez parried the first two spot-kicks to secure the victory, 4-2 on penalties.
The next match will be between Sassuolo and Celta Vigo.
