Both Milan and Napoli players were unhappy with decisions from referee Szymon Marciniak in the first half of their Champions League meeting at the Stadio Maradona.

The Rossoneri are 1-0 up at the break thanks to a goal from Olivier Giroud, who had missed a penalty a few minutes before putting his side ahead.

Alex Meret saved the first penalty kick to a Milan player since Jerzy Dudek in 2005, but Stefano Pioli’s men thought it should have been retaken because multiple Napoli players had entered the area before their goalkeeper’s save.

However, referee Marciniak waved to play on after a silent VAR check.

The same happened shortly afterwards when the Partenopei appealed for a penalty kick for a Rafael Leao foul on Hirving Lozano.

Leao appeared to touch the winger’s foot before he got the ball, but Marciniak gave a corner kick to the home side and VAR confirmed his decision with a silent check.
