Milan President Paolo Scaroni sets a deadline and warns the local authorities that they want a new stadium built ‘by 2027-28,’ whether it’s in Milan or outside the city.

The debate is raging on about whether to knock down the existing Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, reconstruct it or build a whole new arena close by in the same San Siro district.

Another alternative is emerging, as if the local authorities continue to drag out the project and demand more changes, Inter and Milan could move outside the city to Sesto San Giovanni instead.

Milan and Inter warn they are ‘open to other’ stadium options

“We will do whatever is necessary to see if we can finally give the city of Milan a modern stadium, something these two clubs deserve,” Milan President Scaroni told RAI Sport.

“That doesn’t mean if things should be dragged out even more that we won’t look at other options. I imagine 2027-28 to conclude the project, not before.

“If we have a stadium like the one we projected for Milano, we can increase revenue and invest more in youth.”

Other clubs and owners are having similar problems in Italy due to the extreme red tape and resistance to large-scale private projects.

Roma have been trying to build their own stadium for well over a decade now with barely any progress, while Fiorentina saw their proposal rejected in favour of one the local council will use to revamp the existing Stadio Artemio Franchi.

  1. When you put men schooled in the ideology of the 19th century in the helms of affairs to solve emerging challenges of the 21st century, what do you have? Fearful and apathetic Responses born out of ignorances. Men in authorities who don’t have the skillset, charisma and character to tackle head on modern problems. That’s the fundamental problem of Italy. They simply don’t have the right people in the right place to do the right thing! Because they still think they are in the 90s
