Milan and Inter’s new ‘Cathedral’ stadium will have a different shape than the one unveiled three years ago as the clubs continue pushing for their new build, reports detail.

The goal of the two Milanese clubs is to build a new 60-65,000 seat stadium which’ll stand around 30 metres high with two rings on the inside.

They are working towards completion for the 2027-28 season at San Siro in place of the current Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, which’ll be demolished at a cost of around €50m and replaced in 2030 by a three-storey tower with a shopping centre, offices, a large green area and a space dedicated to grassroots sports.

The Populous project is going ahead but the new ‘Cathedral’ stadium will not be the rectangle shape first unveiled three years ago. Instead, details La Gazzetta dello Sport, it’ll be oval shaped and won’t include the spires that drew tribute to the current Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The reason for this is to comply with the requests of the reduction of volumes and increase in space allocated to public green areas, which includes a 10-hectare urban park.

The public debate begins today and will end on November 18, when the final report will be presented. Private investment sits at around €1.3 billion and the two clubs expect to earn €40m each per year from the new stadium.
