Sinisa Mihajlovic’s daughters Virginia and Viktorija bid farewell to their father with two heartbreaking Instagram posts: ‘Promise you’ll be in touch.’
Mihajlovic died of leukaemia in a hospital in Roma on Friday, December 16, 2022.
He was married to Arianna Rapaccioni and had five children with her: Viktorija, Virginia, Miroslav, Dusan and Nikolas.
Viktorija and Virginia shared two Instagram posts to remember their father.
“It’s hard, daddy. In this moment of extreme pain, I’d only need one of your hugs, not any hug, your hug. Mixed with your scent, which, just like your soul, stuck to me. Who knows you know what I am talking about,” said Viktoria, posting several pictures, including one of her hand holding his father’s in his hospital bed.
Viktorija has a daughter with Genoa defender Alessandro Vogliacco, a product of Juventus academy. They met when Sinisa was a coach for Torino and Vogliacco was playing for the Bianconeri’s Primavera team.
“It’s impossible to accept this, but I find strength in the immense love you gave us in these years of life together,” she continued.
“So strong that it will accompany me for the rest of my life. After discovering your destiny, I am grateful that you were with me during all these years. You gave me everything a father can give his daughter and even more.
“You loved me immensely, with all your strength. You protected me from everything. You were too much. Too much for me, too much for us. Too much for everyone. My heart is broken, destroyed. I can’t continue talking about my superhero, my father. Sinisa Mihajlovic for you. It hurts too much.
“I love you, dad, forever and ever. I will shout it to you every day, convinced that it will get there. We will never be far away. Goodbye, dad, my big and immense love. Promise me you’ll be in touch, I still need you so much.”
Viktorija quoted a poem by Italian poet Eugenio Montale: “I came down, giving you my arm, at least a million stairs, and now that you’re gone, there’s a vacuum on every step.
“Even so, our long journey was brief. Mine still lasts, nor do I need the coincidences, the reservations, the traps, the scorns of those who believe that reality is what you see.
“I went down millions of stairs giving you my arm not because with four eyes maybe you can see more. I went down with you because I knew that of the two of us the only real pupils, although so blurred, were yours.
“I love you with all my heart, dad. Pure and rare soul. Pride of my life, my hero, my great love. Wherever you are, I can love until there.”
Mihajlovic’s wife Arianna quoted a line from William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet on Instagram.
Mihajlovic’s friends, former teammates and Serie A clubs are sharing thoughts and sending their condolences to the family of the 53-year-old who had been diagnosed with leukaemia twice in the last three years.
