Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic insists he was not in talks to join another Serie A club but admits he wouldn’t have rejected Inter or Juventus.

Mihajlovic will remain in charge of Bologna in 2021-22, but the former midfielder had been linked with several Serie A clubs, including Inter, Juventus and Lazio.

“I didn’t take time, I was not in talks with other clubs,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“At the end of the season the club told me to meet on June 1 to plan the future. They wanted to wait after the end of the season so everybody could recover mental energies.

“If it was for me, we could have met earlier. I didn’t talk to any other club, but I am not hypocritical, if Inter or Juventus had called me, I wouldn’t have said no. Bologna will never be a plan B for me.”

Mihajlovic has built a strong bond with the city where he was treated for leukaemia in 2019.

“The club has been amazing with me, they never questioned my position, even when I was ill. But, how many coaches would have done the same I did? I went on the bench when I was more dead than alive. I had very low immune defences, I went on the bench with a mask and keeping distance from everyone. At the end of the games I returned to the stadium to continue treatment, but I don’t like to remember that.

“I am in love with Bologna and I hope this relationship will continue. I’ve received a lot, but I’ve given it all.”
