Sinisa Mihajlovic has written to UEFA insisting that Sporting CP have not paid the €3m compensation for unfair dismissal, so should be frozen out of Europe.

The current Bologna coach was hired by one Sporting President in early June 2018, then fired less nine days later after a boardroom coup.

He won the case in the employment tribunal in November 2019 and the Portuguese club was ordered to pay Mihajlovic €3m in compensation.

However, despite reports from A Bola that the money had been paid, now Mihajlovic’s lawyers have released a statement insisting that is not true.

“Sporting Lisbon as of today have not paid me the money that is owed. Since the start of the year, since the club first recognised this debt, they have done nothing but try to delay payment.

“Over the last few months, the club put forward numerous proposals, but what has become clear is that all this was just an attempt to postpone the payment, so I decided to get UEFA involved. Only then did Sporting make a partial payment.

“This behaviour is unacceptable and if forced I will go back to UEFA to receive the full sum. I’ll go all the way, even if it means excluding Sporting from UEFA competitions.”
