Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic has claimed he showed videos of Diego Armando Maradona to Musa Barrow: ‘Maradona was aggressive trying to regain ball possession. If he did it, Barrow can do it too.’

The Rossoblu face Crotone at home on Sunday and the Serbian coach revealed in a pre-match press conference he has showed videos of Diego Armando to his striker Musa Barrow in order to motivate him.

“I was very sad for Diego. Honestly, I didn’t expect it. I thought about him and about how life is. I should have bean angry but I am not the same one I used to be ten years ago. I was upset but in a different way, I tried to touch my players’ pride.

“As I said many times I have a different relationship with them because of what we’ve gone through.”

The Rossoblu were eliminated from the Coppa Italia at hands of Spezia this week with Musa Barrow who missed a few open goals.

“I don’t want to see any more lob shots or weird stuff in front of the goal anymore,” Mihajlovic said.

“I need a healthy ignorance. You get there and you shoot, that’s it.

“Yesterday I showed him a documentary about Maradona to make him understand why he was the greatest of all time.

“He was known for dribbling and goals but he used to go 16 meters away from his goal trying to steal the ball.

“He was tough, he was always pressing, he was challenging. He was aggressive trying to recover the ball. If Maradona could do it, he can do it too and all of them must do it.

“I can’t see one of my player in his twenties going into fluffy tackles.

“I showed him Maradona for the humility he had, not for the way he played. I can’t imagine that someone who has just started doesn’t have that humility. Maradona was the best for what he did at the back and up front. I want to see this from my team".

The former defender believes the Rossoblu need a new striker in the January window.

“They club is aware of it, but I can’t keep repeating it. If you want a name, maybe [Leo] Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo. Are you happy now?”
