“We must not repeat the mistakes we made at Napoli, where we allowed our opponents to get 22 shots on goal,” said the Coach of their 4-2 hammering.

“We need to act like tennis players, so don’t concentrate on the point we lost, but on the one we need to get next.

“We are stronger than Verona, we’re playing on home turf and we have to win. They have already achieved safety, while we still have to secure our objective for the campaign.”

That target is Europa League qualification and Samp are still in fifth place despite a recent downturn in fortunes.

Mihajlovic is often harsh on his players and implied in his Press conference that they will have to “take responsibility” for results.

“I will make some changes from the last game, especially as few of our players can handle three matches in a week.

“This is a chance for everyone. Luis Muriel? He needs to take responsibility for himself. He has to improve in the way he interprets the game and be ever-present, not take so many breaks.

“He has enormous potential and could score a goal every time he steps on to the pitch. We have absolute faith in Muriel and are working to help him improve.

“Stefano Okaka? He had a few chances and does work very hard up there, but he also needs to do better.”

Sampdoria will be without Eder for the rest of the season after he sustained knee ligament damage against Napoli.
