Sinisa Mihajlovic insists Bologna ‘did better than Milan’ when down to nine men. ‘We didn’t pick up points, but it feels like we won.’

The Rossoblu fought back from 2-0 down despite being down to 10 men, then had Roberto Soriano sent off too for a high tackle on Fode Ballo-Toure.

They still held out at 2-2 until the 84th minute, when Ismael Bennacer unleashed a screamer of a volley from the edge of the area.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic then added a fourth in stoppages at the Stadio Dall’Ara.

“I am not angry,” insisted Bologna coach Mihajlovic on Sky Sport Italia.

“I am disappointed the game ended up going that way, but I don’t want to talk about referees anymore. My team had the strength to get back on level terms, then we had two chances down to nine men where we could’ve won it, and without that moment of magic from Bennacer, we might’ve done it.

“We did better than Milan. The lads ought to be proud of what they did this evening. We didn’t pick up points today, but for everything else, it feels like we won. I saw great football, spirit, courage, everything that makes a team strong.

“My only regret is Bennacer’s strike, because without that out of nowhere, I don’t know how it would’ve ended.”

  1. Must have been watching a different game…
Milan had several other chances including a goalie clearance off Giroud’s header.
Definitely not Milan’s best performance and a very admirable one from Bologna, but exaggerating like this is useless.

  2. @Joey Milan lacked luster. Infact for once I didnt want to be a Milan fan. What chances are you talking about? With 9 players they were playing better than us. Milan cldnt even pass the ball round with 2 extra players. Leao can be unpleasing to watch sometimes especially when milan has to mark. You’d wonder whether he’s 32 or 22. I also do not like to see Tatarusanu. The looks on his face is never reassuring. Hardly makes any saves. Ballo toure was the best player for me even against porto

  3. With 9 players, they just kept wasting time (to be expected). Soriano for one took about 5 minutes just to get off the pitch. Despicable when considering his challenge could have severely injured Ballo Toure. Between 60th and 80th minute, every free kick, goal kick and throw in was taking 10-15 seconds. I think the referee only gave 4 minutes of added time because he felt sorry for bologna.
Milan didn’t play well. But then again, name a team in Europe who can have 9 players out of which 5-6 being genuine first 11 players, who can go out there and did what Milan did.
