Bologna have reiterated Sinisa Mihajlovic “is and will remain our Coach” after his leukaemia diagnosis, while fans rushed to embrace the tactician.
The 50-year-old Serbian confirmed the news in a Press conference this afternoon, assuring he will continue to work throughout treatment.
“I know Sinisa Mihajlovic well and I know that he is a man who never gives up,” said President Joey Saputo in a statement.

“Of course, the news of his illness has shocked us. I want to let it be known that my thoughts and those of my family are with Sinisa and his loved ones.
“As Walter Sabatini said in the Press conference, Mihajlovic is and will remain Bologna’s Coach. But professional issues are of secondary importance here: Sinisa has an important battle to win, and in me, Bologna Fc and the whole city – a city that loves him – he can be sure to find allies ready to fight alongside him.
“No other words are needed at this time. Forza Sinisa!”
There were emotional scenes around the Press conference, too, as it was shown live on television and players were spotted crowding around a tablet to watch it during their training session.
They had just spoken to Mihajlovic in a video conference call, but also wanted to see what he said to the media.
Fans and well-wishers crowded outside the gates of the training ground in Bologna and chanted his name.
As Mihajlovic was driving away, he stopped and got out of the car for an embrace with the supporters, who told the Coach they were waiting for him to return in better shape than ever.
The treatment for leukaemia will begin in Bologna on Tuesday.
