Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic said it was ‘a deserved win’ against Cagliari on Monday, stressed he wants ‘more and more’ from Marko Arnautovic and claimed the Rossoblu ‘should have a few more points’.

The home side scored twice in the second half, including a goal by Austria international Arnautovic in stoppages, as they won 2-0 over Walter Mazzarri’s Cagliari on Monday.

Serie A | Bologna 2-0 Cagliari: from bad to worse for the Casteddu

The match ended in a brawl and Martin Caceres was sent off for the visitors, but Bologna seemed to be in control for most of the game, according to Mihajlovic.

“We played the game we had to play, we knew they would close down and we needed great patience,” Mihajlovic told DAZN.

“In the first half we were a bit slow and we didn’t attack the depth. In the second half we knew that sooner or later we would score, there was a great play by Marko, and I think the win was deserved because we risked a bit.

“They only had the Lykogiannis shot at the end, we scored two goals, hit the post and had more chances. The important thing is to not concede a goal, because sooner or later we score one up front.”

Lorenzo De Silvestri scored the opening goal and seemed destined to become the match winner on Monday.

“De Silvestri was not supposed to be there, but [Roberto] Soriano. But it’s an action that we have tried in training and the players know the movements they have to make to get to goal by playing in this way,” the coach said.

“When we build and attack the way we play hasn’t changed, despite having an extra defender. We are always a team that wants to attack and play attacking football.”

Arnautovic added the second and was thus involved in both goals as he returned after missing the match against Napoli.

“In the first half everyone wanted the ball at their feet and didn’t look for depth, in the second half we played differently,” Mihajlovic continued. “Marko is a different player than [Rodrigo] Palacio, who opened more spaces.

“He knows how to protect the ball and open the spaces, like he did on the first goal. These are games in which he has to be decisive, I expect more and more from him because he has character and quality.

“I hope he can do even better in the future as well.”

Cagliari patron Giulini: ‘Mazzarri a certainty’

Bologna are now 10th in Serie A with 15 points from 10 games and Mihajlovic believes they should have collected more.

“In my opinion, the team deserves a few more points, at least four, and I hope they can recover them during the season,” he said. “We are three or for on 15 points and we want to stay on the left side of the table.

“Now, let’s go play against Sampdoria and if we perform like this, we could win. We need to stay focused on what we can control, without getting distracted.”

  1. Sinisa has a little slow pace but is growing and constantly improving. The opposite of certain Mourinho who could’nt, is stuck in time and they suffer all because of him.

  2. Sorry…Sinisa is in over his head in Serie A. It is too tactical for him and he doesn’t have the chops to compete. There are so many good coaches in Serie B, C in Italy that will never get the chance.
