Sinisa Mihajlovic hails a ‘perfect performance’ after Bologna thrashed Parma 3-0 and explains how he’s working to make Musa Barrow a centre-forward.

Barrow bagged an early brace, while Riccardo Orsolini came off the bench to score a late third.

“It was a perfect performance. We scored three goals, could’ve had another two or three, and allowed practically nothing at the back,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“I am happy for Musa, who scored two goals, as we’re working every day in training on the movements of a centre-forward and it’s paying off. He has the characteristics to be a centre-forward, he just needs to get himself into the situation to score.

“He still plays a bit more like a winger, but we are working every day on his movements, what he should and shouldn’t do. When he’s in front of the goal, he can get it in the net, that’s not the issue.”

Bologna break away a little from the danger zone with this victory, which leaves Parma in penultimate place.

“We were playing without seven or even 10 players for at least two months. I see other clubs who get let off for missing one or two, but we were missing half the team,” continued Mihajlovic.

“Now we’ve got some options off the bench, a squad with a lot of quality, and we’ll try to keep improving. The results are all very strange at the moment this season, we saw some odd ones yesterday too, so we need to be concentrated for the full 90 minutes.

“We needed to rediscover the spirit we had when I first arrived at Bologna, that sense of absolute desperation and determination we had to grab every result. That’s how the other teams in the relegation zone feel now.

“There were opponents who under-estimated us when they came here and we’d out-fight them every time. Now what we need to do is match the opponents in terms of aggression, desperation and determination, then we can let the quality shine through.”

Mihajlovic was asked about his future plans for Bologna, who had initially gone into this term aiming for European places, then quickly readjusted to a fight for survival.

“It depends on them. I have a contract for another two years, we’ll see what happens. I understand there are projects in place and others that had to stop halfway because of situations that emerged. As I said, it’s a strange season, so I will try to secure safety as quickly as possible.

“For next season, we can talk about targets, whether we want to invest or not. I am not the one who sets the targets for this club, that’s down to the directors.”
