Mihajlovic defends his Fiorentina

Sinisa Mihajlovic confirms he “expects a great deal from Adrian Mutu” and does not feel the pressure of following Cesare Prandelli's reign.

“My Fiorentina is not doing worse than Prandelli's. It's true he reached the Champions League, but we didn't have any strikers for a large portion of the campaign.

“Last season Alberto Gilardino scored more thanks to the assists from Juan Manuel Vargas and Stevan Jovetic, who I have never really been able to work with due to injuries.

“Our objective is to play well and get injured figures back so we can improve our results. That way we can also get the fans back in the stadium.”

Mutu was also absent for much of the term between doping bans, injuries and his blazing row with the club hierarchy.

“Our step up in quality depends on Mutu. He is playing well, but hasn't done anything yet,” added Mihajlovic.

“I'll make a few changes after our midweek game with Inter, as I don't want tiredness to take its toll. I think facing Sampdoria will be tougher than our last two games, as they'll clam up and not allow us much space.

“We've got to improve our concentration in defence, as for the second match running we conceded from set plays and that is unjustifiable.”
