“My team never gives up, our objective is always to score one more goal than the opposition,” said the coach in his press conference after one clean sheet in over a year.

“Even when we go a goal or two down, we keep playing. It’s true that we often concede at the first shot on target, but the important thing is that we react.”

The injury list remains extensive, with Gary Medel, Nicola Sansone, Ibrahima Mbaye, Lukasz Skorupski and Federico Santander out of action, but Aaron Hickey, Jerdy Schouten and Matias Svanberg all return.

“We are one team when Schouten is playing and another when he’s absent. He’s a fundamental player for us, very intelligent, a clean passer. He’s the one who has surprised me the most since his arrival at Bologna.

“Musa Barrow is having a difficult moment, but he’ll be back. Barrow is a quality player, we paid a lot for him and I expect him to do what he’s capable of. I want to see him play well and score goals. He’ll take that cast off his hand tomorrow too, otherwise I’ll cut his arm off…”

Fiorentina are a different prospect after their shock 3-0 win away to Juventus.

“I expect a balanced game. We will play, as always, aggressively, while they will try to make the most of their best players, like Franck Ribery and Dusan Vlahovic.

“I also want to point out they have two Serbians in the squad and that’s an advantage in terms of character,” continued the Serbian coach.

“Having said that, my players are gradually getting more Serbian. I hope to secure safety as soon as possible, but then start targeting another objective, like finishing in the top half of the table or setting a new points record. I won’t settle for 12th.”
