“If we were to win at San Siro, it’d allow us to break further away from the Rossoneri,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We still believe in the Champions League, hoping that Roma and Lazio can slow down. We must try to make the most of the chances we are given, like venomous serpents.

“Milan have quality players capable of changing the game with a single move, like Alessio Cerci, Jeremy Menez and Mattia Destro.”

Mihajlovic has repeatedly been linked with the Milan job for next season, putting pressure on Pippo Inzaghi.

“I am happy that Inzaghi managed to emerge from a very difficult period. Without doubt this is a very important game for us. We don’t want to adapt to Milan and therefore lose our identity.”

The Serbian is a hard task-master and interrupted a training session on Friday to send them all for an early shower due to their poor attitude.

“I didn’t see the right concentration in training over two days and I want the players to always be present with the mind as well as the body.

“After I ranted at them on Friday we talked it over and they looked more focused on Saturday. I understand that everyone is complimenting the players, but all it takes is two or three games for a revelation team to be transformed into a side that gives up.

“Only we can waste this opportunity and we don’t want to do that. We want to take Samp where they deserve to be.

“You don’t see a winning horse at the start or half-way through a race, but at the finish line. It’s pointless running so hard if the others overtake you on the final strait.”

Mihajlovic admitted this week he could well leave the Blucerchiati, but wants to do so with a gift.

“I want to take Sampdoria into Europe. My work here is not done.”

Vasco Regini is suspended, while Fabrizio Cacciatore and Alessandro De Vitis are sidelined.
