The Serbian has been linked with a move away from the club, with reports he could replace Rafa Benitez at Napoli.

“We must all be together to move forward,” Mihajlovic explained in an interview with il Secolo XIX.

“One person might not want to go any more. For example, I set objectives for myself, and if I don’t reach them then I could leave, even though I have a contract. That’s my character.

“Money is the least of my worries. Whatever happens, we’ve had a great season.

“At the end we’ll have time to decide whether I should stay, I’d like guarantees. I’m a Coach who likes a project.”

Despite a positive campaign, the Blucerchiati have fallen to seventh in the League, and Mihajlovic believes expectations are too high.

“In Italy things only work if you win, and you can’t win all the time. I don’t think there’s any gratitude in football.

“If anyone thinks that Samp have become Real Madrid then they’re wrong.

“I understand the dynamic, but I can’t say I share it. No Sampdoria player deserves to be whistled, each team has what it deserves, and each team has some regrets.”

Sampdoria could be granted Europa League entry by finishing seventh, as their city rivals Genoa have been denied a UEFA licence, but the former defender is not in favour.

“I’m a sportsman,” Mihajlovic said.

“I want to get into Europe for what we did on the pitch. If Genoa get there, then I will applaud them.”
