Sinisa Mihajlovic admits “nobody expected to find Sampdoria third after 19 rounds.”
The Blucerchiati reached the midway stage of the campaign in joint third place with Napoli on a club record 33 points, having beaten Parma 2-0 this afternoon.
“We are having a fantastic season and there are some sides who on paper are stronger, yet they are behind us in the table,” Mihajlovic told Sky Sport Italia.

“We are having a fantastic season and there are some sides who on paper are stronger, yet they are behind us in the table,” Mihajlovic told Sky Sport Italia.
“With hard work and belief in your abilities, you can get great results. I am happy and again today we put in a good performance in a very difficult arena.
“Samp had never managed this many points in the first half of the season. We lost only two games out of 19 and I am very happy.
“Nobody would’ve expected to find Sampdoria third after 19 rounds. We started out with the target of finishing in the top half of the table and now we are here.
“If we had improved in terms of mentality in certain games, then we would’ve had a few more points. I’d give us 7.5 out of 10 for the campaign so far.”
Stefano Okaka was dropped again today, while Luis Muriel and Samuel Eto’o are set to join Sampdoria.
“Muriel won’t be available for 30-40 days due to that injury. I won’t talk about Eto’o yet because he’s not our player.
“Okaka was fundamental when he was playing like Okaka. For a few games he didn’t do what I expected, he got distracted by other things and having Bergessio in the squad I knew I could make the most of his talents.
“This is one of the strengths of our team, that nobody is guaranteed a starting spot. Will we have too many forwards? It’s better to have too many than too few.”
