“Arrigo Sacchi called me today to wish me luck and said he too started out in Florence, even if he lost that game,” said the Coach in a Press conference.

“Our first opponents are a strong team and perhaps it’s better that way, as we can immediately see where we stand. I have great respect for Fiorentina, but I told my lads that some teams dream of winning and for others it is their duty to win. We will always be in the latter group.

“I want entertainment, let me be clear, but results don’t come unless a team is aggressive, organised and above all knows what it’s doing. I am glad the lads are assimilating the attacking mentality. If we put into practice all we’ve worked on, there’s a great chance of victory.

“I realised there is enthusiasm around the side, but I also know that two or three bad results are enough to bring it all tumbling down. We must therefore make the most of this confidence.

“Our objective is to finish in the top three. Would I be happy with third today? No, there’s a whole season ahead of us.

“We signed Carlos Bacca and Luiz Adriano to score goals and make the difference, so now we must put them in the best condition to do well. I think we’ve got one of the best strike forces in Serie A.”

It is a return to the Stadio Franchi for Mihajlovic, who never bonded with the Viola fans and left in bitter circumstances.

“I was there for 18 months and will always thank the Della Valle family for giving me that chance. It was a difficult time, as Riccardo Montolivo also knows, but we are not seeking revenge.

“I haven’t changed as a person, but I am certainly no longer the same Coach I was four years ago. I have always been direct and want respect from players, so must give them the same respect. Some might not like it, but I always tell the truth to my players.”
