Sinisa Mihajlovic said Sampdoria wasted “three chances it was tougher to miss than score” against Lazio.

Pedro Obiang and Samuel Eto’o somehow turned off target in front of open goals in the 1-0 home defeat.

“Naturally it was better to win, or at least not lose, but we cannot have five or six chances every game to score one,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Pedro Obiang and Samuel Eto’o somehow turned off target in front of open goals in the 1-0 home defeat.

“Naturally it was better to win, or at least not lose, but we cannot have five or six chances every game to score one,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Today we had three chances where it was tougher to miss than to score, yet we missed all of them. If you miss those, you deserve to lose.

“I’m not saying we would’ve won if we had scored any of those, but I don’t believe we would have lost.

“I wanted my three strikers to press their three defenders, preventing Lazio from starting moves. After conceding the goal, we didn’t have the strength to react. We tried to change and make ourselves more dangerous, but we didn’t manage it.”

Sampdoria went into this weekend in sixth place, the last to qualify for the Europa League, so the pressure is on.

“Now we must try to win the remaining two games and see what happens. We need to recover immediately, this has happened and we have to concentrate on the next game.

“I believe this team deserves to be in the Europa League for all it has done throughout the campaign. It would be a real shame if we didn’t qualify, but I think we will get there.”
