Serbia manager Sinisa Mihajlovic is confident “Italy can do well in Euro 2012,” though questions Daniele De Rossi’s new role in central defence.

The Azzurri open Group C at 17.00 UK time in Gdansk when taking on Spain with a new 3-5-2 formation.

“Italy can do well in Euro 2012, although perhaps Leonardo Bonucci would’ve been more suited to the role of centre-back currently taken by De Rossi,” the Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”27″>ex-Fiorentina Coach told Radio Deejay.

“I watched the 3-0 friendly defeat to Russia, but I don’t generally take games like that into consideration.

“I am convinced Italy can do well, as they always drag out their grit and determination in the big tournaments. They may not play as well as Spain, but Italy have nothing to worry about.”

Mihajlovic had disciplinary issues to deal with in the Serbia camp, as Fiorentina’s Adem Ljajic was sent home for refusing to sing the national anthem.

“We all signed a document that explained what would happen in these cases. Ljajic decided not to sing the anthem and consequently was sent home. This is what rules are for.”
