La Gazzetta dello Sport notes that Leandro Paredes’ development proves Daniele De Rossi’s ‘exceptional’ work, while Roberto De Zerbi was ‘betrayed by incredible individual errors’ at the Stadio Olimpico on Thursday.

Roma secured a formidable 4-0 win over Brighton on Thursday in the first leg of the Europa League Round of 16.

‘Roma were stunning, stunning. They scared the opponents. The Giallorossi are not favourite to win Europa League, but the way they beat Brighton won’t go unnoticed,’ wrote Gazzetta dello Sport correspondent G.B. Olivero on page 8 on Thursday.

‘Roma were able to steer the game when it was balanced and, contrary to their opponents, took their chances and dominated in the second half, thanks to amazing personality and excellent execution. Daniele De Rossi won the duel with De Zerbi (betrayed by incredible individual errors), but proved again how much a coach can have an impact when he transmits to his group principles, courage and enthusiasm.’

Gazzetta rated the Italian tactician 8/10. The pink paper noted that DDR has done ‘exceptional work’ since replacing José Mourinho, as Paredes’ performance proved. The Argentinean midfielder was the Giallorossi’s MOTM, according to the Italian sports newspaper.

All other Roma players understandably received high ratings from Gazzetta, but the best ones after Pares were Paulo Dybala, Stephan El Shaarawy and Romelu Lukaku who were all rated 7.5/10.

De Rossi, 40, has won eight games from 10 across all competitions since replacing Mourinho in January. The former Italy and Roma midfielder has signed a contract until the end of the season. Their next game is against Fiorentina at the Stadio Franchi on Sunday night.
