Striker Michu has been struggling with an ankle knock, and his Coach has confirmed the on-loan Spaniard will not feature tomorrow, as he defended his rotation policy.
“He has an ankle problem,” Benitez revealed in his Press conference ahead of the visit of the Swiss side.
“We’re working with him to try and make it better. He has a tremendous desire to play, but we want to do everything we can to resolve his now, so he doesn’t suffer new problems.
“I always try to change players to win the match.
“Michu and David Lopez will not play [tomorrow]. Gargano [sat alongside Benitez] might play.
“There will definitely be a few changes, for many years I’ve been preparing teams to compete throughout the year, not just in the League.
“We want to do well in every competition, all the players must be in top condition, and that means they don’t play in some games.
“I try to rotate players to allow us to always have a high intensity.”
Where Michu trained alone today, Hamsik was absent, due to a fever, and alongside David Lopez, they are not named in Benitez’s squad.
