David Beckham’s Inter Miami are in trouble after it was ascertained they broke MLS rules when signing Blaise Matuidi from Juventus.

Major League Soccer made the ruling on Friday and will announce possible sanctions “in the near future.”

Matuidi “should have been classified as a designated player” for the 2020 campaign due to his salary when he made the switch from Juve.

Inter Miami already had three designated players to break the salary cap, namely Gonzalo Higuain, Rodolfo Pizarro and Matias Pellegrini.

In order to make way for Matuidi, Inter Miami have now sent Pellegrini on loan to Fort Lauderdale.

However, the rules had been violated, as the ‘targeted allocation money’ (TAM) approach on Matuidi’s transfer was not applicable.

“Matuidi’s compensation was above the limit for a TAM player and he should have been classified as a designated player. As a result, Inter Miami violated the designated player limit as the team had three designated players in addition to Matuidi during 2020.”
