Mexico international goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa confirmed he is leaving Club America, as Salernitana are expected to sign him tomorrow.

The 37-year-old shot-stopper was the hero for Mexico at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, which was his fifth edition of the tournament.

He parried a Robert Lewandowski penalty in the 0-0 draw with Poland, but they were unable to make it past the group stage.

Ochoa had been at Club America since 2019, returning to the team where he started his career before spells at Ajaccio, Malaga, Granada and Standard Liege.

Now he is returning to Europe for a new experience with Serie A strugglers Salernitana as a free agent, once his contract expires on December 31.

In an open letter on Facebook, Ochoa thanked Club America fans, but admitted “the moment has arrived for me to seek new horizons, new challenges and new adventures that can allow me to continue growing as a person and as a player.”

The veteran is tipped to have a medical and sign for Salernitana tomorrow, where he will then battle with Luigi Sepe for the right to wear the gloves at the Stadio Arechi.
