Former Roma defender Philippe Mexès praises Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti: ‘One of the best coaches in the world at the moment.’

The Partenopei are the Serie A table leaders and have qualified for the Champions League Round of 16 with two games to spare, beating Ajax twice, Rangers and Liverpool.

Spalletti has been included in the top 50 coaches in the World by FourFourTwo and his former defender Mexes agrees that the Tuscan boss is among the best right now.

“Perhaps, he is the best coach I worked with in my career. I want to say more, to me, he is one of the best out there currently. He takes care of every single detail, he is so prepared,” the ex-France defender told La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“He is not only an excellent tactician, but he can also convey his grit and personality, helping players give their best.

“Spalletti gave me so much, he made me grow. Without him, I wouldn’t have had my career. I improved so much under him in every aspect.”

Spalletti will meet his former club Roma in a key Serie A clash at the Stadio Olimpico on Sunday night.

Mexes played 172 games under the Certaldo-born boss in the capital between 2005 and 2010.
