Leo Messi mentioned Diego Armando Maradona in a letter published after Argentina’s World Cup win: ‘He supported us from the sky.’

The South Americans are back home to celebrate with their fans after lifting the third World Cup in their history.

Messi led Argentina to the top of the World more than 30 years after their win at Mexico ’86, inspired by Napoli legend Diego Armando Maradona.

MESSI OR MARADONA: DOES IT MATTER WHO IS GREATER?

Messi mentioned ‘El Diez’ in an open letter published on Instagram. He said that the trophy also belongs to ‘Diego who supported us from the sky.’

Maradona’s son Diego Armando Junior broke into tears after Argentina beat France on penalties on Sunday night and celebrated their third World Cup in the streets of Naples, holding a flag with his father’s face printed on it.

The 36-year-old, who was born in Naples in 1986, months after Argentina’s triumph in Mexico, did not seem bothered by the continuous comparison between his father and the PSG superstar and thanked Messi on Instagram on Monday.
