Lionel Messi will “finally” arrive at the San Paolo next week, when Napoli host Barcelona in a match he has been “wanting for a long time”.

The Argentine talisman has claimed that the former Napoli hero Ezequiel Lavezzi had told him about his experience in Naples and Messi revealed that he is “very excited” about the prospects of playing in front of a well-known crowd.

The Champions League is back and in the first leg of the last 16, Messi will get his chance to show his skills at the former home stadium of Diego Maradona.

“I have wanted to go to that stadium for a long time, but we have never had the chance,” he told Mundo Deportivo. “Finally, the moment has come and I’m very excited to see what it’s like, even if it’s different now. It has been renewed and the people are different.

“The experience of playing there will be very nice. People are very passionate there and they dreamed that if Maradona came there, why can’t Messi come? Yes, I know the Neapolitans are crazy about football. I had teammates that played there, like Pocho [Lavezzi] and he told me many things.

“He told me that they live for this and I’m very excited about going there.”

But the superstar has warned his Blaugrana teammates about keeping up their concentration in this kind of matches and wants to evict “silly mistakes” that have cost Barcelona in recent years.

“To qualify, we need to be more stable in our game. We must learn the new things that we are putting into practice as soon as possible,” he added. “We must be more reliable and not make silly mistakes like those in Rome or Liverpool.

“You have to manage all the details because every detail in the Champions League condemns you and we must put down 100 per cent to win the match.”
