Mertens to make decision?

Dries Mertens reportedly has a new Napoli contract and an offer to join Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea on the table.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis plans to meet Mertens after the World Cup and extend his contract until 2022 with a small pay rise and no release clause.

However, ANSA cites reports in the English Press which claim Sarri will try to bring Mertens with him to Chelsea as he closes in on becoming Antonio Conte’s successor.

The Belgian would be exempt from the pact Sarri is said to have with the Partenopei over not signing players with release clauses, given his has ‘expired’.

The 31-year-old was converted into a centre-forward by the former Empoli boss and scored 22 goals last season, but the newspaper warns he will only be sold for ‘at least €50m’.
